Summer out, Fall In

The hot summer seems to be over and I can return to work in my art studio. No AC and second floor has not been conducive to anything but a lot of sweat and swear. Finally, was able to complete 3 works with the cooler weather giving me patience. Lost the sweat, kept the swear. These three are all big…. 3 ft by 4 ft and my inspiration is the play “Trip To Bountiful ” (more on that later…). The play brings up a lot about aging, small towns, time and for me…how our memories of the past get shifted and shaded by our own living. …This first one is called “Tangled Memories of Home”. Our memories of places don’t seem the same when we go back to visit. The whole “I don’t remember it like this.” The second “The Many Roads Home”. I was reflecting on the “home” might be reconnecting with an old friend, maybe a call to a grandparent or actually a visit to somewhere in your past. Many ways to get back there. And last, The Golden Harvest. This one looks simple, but is about 7 paintings under it, lots of fails on this. I kind of like where it ended. Simple and warm. Its field is HIGHLY textured from the fails!

  3. The last one reminds me, if possible, of a cheerful Rothko. Have I ever seen a cheerful Rothko? Not sure. Also, the “New Horizons 8th annual exhibition” with the yellow wavy field and the collage mountains is clever, IMHO. Nice meeting you the other day at Alene’s booth. Cheers, Steve

ps. I’ve got to get “my card” printed one of these days . . .
